IELTS for UKVI versus ordinary IELTS

IELTS Academic and IELTS for UKVI Academic use the same skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking. The difference is where you sit and what the report is allowed to do.

Ordinary IELTS (British Council or IDP, a standard centre in Lahore) is what most universities want for admission. IELTS for UKVI is a Secure English Language Test. You sit it only at a centre on the UK Home Office list. The Test Report Form is marked as UKVI.

A UK university can ask for ordinary Academic 6.0 for the offer, and the visa can still demand IELTS for UKVI at a SELT centre. Those are two documents. Read both.

Do not book a cheap standard Academic date if the CAS or the visa checklist says IELTS for UKVI. The Home Office will not treat them as the same product.

Life in the UK (spouse, parent, some extensions) often wants IELTS for UKVI Life Skills, not Academic at all.
