IELTS and PTE, taught on the machines you will sit the test on.

A training desk of HHC in Khayaban-e-Amin. Twelve All-in-One PCs. Twelve seats. Interactive sessions with a short break. Live over the internet is coming soon.

Ask the desk which paper your university or visa file actually names.

Vocabulary Treasure

Search any English word.

Meaning and how to say it — IPA, then a voice. Write the word in a sentence of your own. A practice chest. Not Cambridge or Oxford.

From the lab’s cards — look one up

Official tests in Pakistan are sat with these bodies — not with us

British Council and IDP administer IELTS in Pakistan. Pearson administers PTE Academic, PTE Core, PTE Academic UKVI, and PTE Home. English Lab prepares you for those papers. We do not sell exam seats or collect official test fees.

Which test is for whom

One English. Four decisions. Sit the paper the page named.

A test is a product (IELTS Academic, PTE Core, UKVI…). A university is a place on a course. A visa is permission to enter. Immigration / PR is a points table. They are not interchangeable. Read the admissions page, then the offer, then the visa or IRCC / Home Affairs table.

IELTS does not replace PTE unless that page says so. Academic does not replace Core. A standard sitting does not replace UKVI. English Lab trains the paper. We do not choose it for your file.

Confirm on the admission page for your programme, then on the offer letter, then on the visa or immigration table if you will lodge. English Lab trains the paper. We do not decide which one your file needs.

Four different decisions

The test, the university, the visa, and immigration are not the same thing.

People mix these four and book the wrong paper. Read them in order. If two pages name two products, you may need two sittings — or you sit the one both pages accept.

01 · The test

A paper with a name

IELTS Academic is not IELTS General Training. PTE Academic is not PTE Core. UKVI is a booking and a centre, not a different English. Sit only the product printed on your page.

02 · The university

Admission and the offer letter

Each institute and each programme sets its own English line. That number is for a place on the course. It is not a visa. Read the admissions page, then the offer. They can differ.

03 · The visa

Permission to enter

Student and work visas have their own English tables (UKVI, Home Affairs subclass 500, and others). Meeting the university offer does not automatically meet the visa. Meeting the visa floor does not get you the offer.

04 · Immigration / PR

Points and language tables

Express Entry, skilled visas, and similar files use a different table again (often CLB, or Competent / Proficient / Superior). PTE Core is not PTE Academic. A study offer does not fill a PR row unless that row says so.

University admission

University

IELTS Academic

Undergraduate and postgraduate offers that name IELTS Academic. Task 1 is a chart, map, or process. Reading is dense. Speaking is with a human examiner. This is usually a university paper. A visa may also accept it if that visa page prints Academic — not if it prints UKVI-only or General Training.

IELTS

Four skills, a human speaking test, a band from 0 to 9.

IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP, and Cambridge Assessment English. In Pakistan you book it with British Council or IDP — including IELTS for UKVI at listed SELT centres. Listening, Reading, and Writing are one block. Speaking is a face-to-face or video interview. Computer-delivered IELTS is trained here on All-in-One PCs.

Listening

Four recordings, 40 questions. Accents from the UK, Australia, and elsewhere. You hear each recording once. Computer IELTS lets you highlight; paper does not give the audio back.

Reading

Academic: three long passages, 60 minutes. GT: notices and workplace texts, then a longer piece. Timing, not word lists, is what fails most first attempts.

Writing

Task 1 (20 minutes: chart, map, process — or a letter on GT) plus Task 2 (40 minutes: essay). Examiners mark the answer, not the template.

Speaking

Three parts, 11–14 minutes. Part 2 is a one-to-two-minute turn on a cue card. Fluency and pronunciation count as much as ‘big words.’

IELTS Academic

Who it is for

Undergraduate and postgraduate applicants who need an overall 6.0–7.5 for a CAS or I-20.

The university-route paper: reading density, Task 1 charts, and a speaking test that rewards precise academic English — not memorised templates.

IELTS General Training

Who it is for

Candidates for skilled-work, some PR streams, and professional registration that specify GT rather than Academic.

Work and migration English: workplace reading, a letter in Task 1, and a speaking test that should sound like a person, not a brochure.

IELTS UKVI

Who it is for

UK student, skilled-worker, or family routes that name IELTS for UKVI on the visa checklist.

Same skills as Academic or GT, taught against UKVI booking rules, SELT centres, and the extra admin that sinks first-time UK files.

4 weeks

Course feePKR 50,000PKR 42,000Enrol early and save more.

PTE

Pearson’s computer tests. One sitting. A microphone, a keyboard, and an engine that scores you.

In Pakistan, PTE is booked with Pearson. PTE Academic, PTE Core, PTE Academic UKVI, and PTE Home are different products. They share a headset and a lab, not a syllabus. Repeat-sentence, write-from-dictation, and read-aloud reward clean audio more than a polished essay. That is why the room is twelve All-in-One PCs.

What the machine hears

Fluency, pronunciation, and content on speaking items. Background noise, a weak mic, or a rehearsed pause all cost points. On-site you use the lab headset.

What the machine reads

Grammar and vocabulary in essays and email items, plus short answers that must match the recording. Spelling on dictation is not a small thing.

PTE Academic

Who it is for

Study-abroad applicants whose university or agent accepts PTE Academic, and students who prefer a computer over a human examiner.

A computer-scored university test. The lab trains the item types, the microphone, and the timing — not a paper-IELTS habit forced onto a headset.

PTE Core

Who it is for

Canada PR and work files that list PTE Core (not Academic) on the language table.

Pearson’s Canada-facing general test. Shorter than Academic in places, still unforgiving on fluency and write-from-dictation.

PTE Academic UKVI

Who it is for

UK applications that name PTE Academic UKVI as the approved secure test.

PTE Home

Who it is for

Scoring

Two different rulers. Do not convert in your head and book the wrong paper.

IELTS reports a band from 0 to 9. PTE reports a number from 10 to 90. The university offer names one ruler. The visa table may name another. A concordance chart is a guide — not a promise that 65 PTE “is” 7.0 IELTS on your file.

IELTS score card

0 – 9

Four skills, half-band steps. Overall = average of the four, rounded to the nearest 0.5.

Listening

0–9

40 questions. Raw marks convert to a band. You hear each recording once. Same listening paper for Academic and General Training.

Reading

0–9

40 questions in 60 minutes. Academic and General Training use different papers and different conversion tables. The band is still 0–9.

Writing

0–9

Task 1 + Task 2. Four equal marks: task, coherence, vocabulary, grammar. Task 2 counts more in the writing band. Academic Task 1 is a chart; GT Task 1 is a letter.

Speaking

0–9

A person, not a machine. Four equal marks: fluency, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation. Same speaking test for Academic and GT.

PTE score card

10 – 90

Overall plus four communicative skills. Many items feed two skills at once.

Speaking

10–90

Read-aloud, repeat-sentence, describe image, retell, short answer. The microphone is the examiner. Fluency and pronunciation feed this score.

Writing

10–90

Summarise written text and an essay — plus dictation and other items that also feed writing. One weak task can pull two skills.

Reading

10–90

Fill blanks, multiple choice, reorder paragraphs. Some speaking items also add reading points (integrated scoring).

Listening

10–90

Summarise, MCQ, fill blanks, highlight incorrect words, write from dictation. Dictation is high-value.

IELTS Speaking — tap a band

Examiners mark four criteria equally: fluency & coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range & accuracy, pronunciation. What you read here is a teaching paraphrase of the public band descriptors (British Council / IDP / Cambridge). It is not the examiner’s confidential booklet and not a prediction of your result.

Fluency & coherence

Speaks at length without noticeable effort or loss of coherence. Some language-related hesitation, repetition, or self-correction. Discourse markers used with some flexibility.

Lexical resource

Flexible vocabulary across topics, including some less-common items, with occasional inaccuracy. Paraphrases effectively.

Grammatical range

A range of complex structures, used with some flexibility. Frequent error-free sentences. Errors do not hide meaning.

Pronunciation

Easy to follow. A range of pronunciation features, with some lapses. Accent is not a problem if the listener is not strained.

The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.

PTE Academic — who asks for what

Pearson publishes typical university cut-scores. Visas use different tables (and, in Australia, different numbers after 7 August 2025). English Lab does not set these numbers. Always open the offer letter, Home Affairs, UKVI, or IRCC page that names your file.

Typical university (Pearson guide)

Study — PTE Academic

51–67

Pearson’s institutional score guide (orientation only): foundation courses often sit around 36–50 overall; undergraduate around 51–60; postgraduate around 57–67. Many universities also set a floor on each communicative skill. The offer letter wins.

UK Student route (SELT / CEFR)

UK — degree level

≈59 each (B2)

Pearson maps CEFR B2 (common degree-level Student-route floor) to about 59 in each communicative skill on PTE Academic. Below-degree study is often B1 (~43). Universities still set their own overall. Check the CAS and UKVI list, not a Facebook chart.

Tests on or after 7 August 2025

Australia — two checks

Offer and visa

The university offer and the visa are two separate decisions. One score never covers both. University (admission / offer) The programme page and the offer letter. This is usually the higher number — often PTE Academic in the mid-50s to mid-60s. Hitting only the visa floor will not get you a place. Student visa (subclass 500) Home Affairs, from 7 August 2025: about PTE Academic 47 overall. That is the visa minimum so you can apply. It does not mean the university has accepted you. Skilled visas Competent, Proficient and Superior English now need a score in each skill, not one overall number. Open both papers: the offer letter and the Home Affairs page for your visa.

Canada — PTE Core (not Academic)

Canada — CLB tables

Core → CLB

Express Entry and many work streams use PTE Core mapped to CLB. Approximate IRCC bands: CLB 7 often around L60 R60 S68 W69; CLB 9 around L82 R78 S84 W88. Academic is the wrong paper if the table names Core. PGWP and other programmes have their own rows — read IRCC, not a consultant’s screenshot.

IELTS vs PTE Academic — approximate concordance

Pearson publishes comparison tables for PTE Academic vs IELTS. They are for orientation only. They are not a visa table, not a CLB table, and not your university’s offer. Your page wins.

IELTS overallPTE Academic (approx.)Often asked for
5.542–49Some foundation / pathway programmes — university, not visa
6.050–57Many undergraduate offers (university)
6.558–64Most UK master’s; common CAS line — university / CAS, not UKVI by itself
7.065–72Competitive programmes; some professional bodies
7.573–78High-demand courses
8.079–82Rare as a minimum; useful headroom

RetakeNext date at BC or IDP. One Skill Retake exists on some IELTS products.Pearson typically allows another attempt after a short gap. Check the portal.

Improve one skill

A retake is not a second chance at the same mistake. It is a module for the skill that failed.

Official bodies decide what you may resit. A university, a visa, and immigration can disagree. English Lab trains the weak skill. We do not book, collect, or guarantee the retake. Confirm the receiving organisation in writing before you pay British Council, IDP, or Pearson.

IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR)

British Council and IDP let some candidates resit one skill — Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking — after a computer-delivered full test. The other three scores stay. You get a new Test Report Form. It shows that one skill was retaken.

Who needs it

  • Overall is already there, one skill is 0.5 (sometimes 1.0) below the line on the offer or visa table.
  • You sat computer IELTS, not paper.
  • You can book within 60 days of the original test date (deadlines apply).
  • Only one skill is the problem. Two weak skills usually means a full test again.

Who accepts a retaken module

  • Australia’s Department of Home Affairs accepts IELTS results that include One Skill Retake on eligible visas — confirm the subclass page.
  • Australian and New Zealand universities are widely reported as accepting OSR for admission. Still open the programme page.
  • IDP lists 2,000+ organisations worldwide. UK / Canada / US universities decide one by one.
  • UKVI / SELT files: do not assume. Ask British Council or IDP in writing if your checklist names IELTS for UKVI.
  • Professional regulators (nursing, teaching, engineering) set their own rule. Ask them, not us.

Australia — Department of Home Affairs

DHA accepts OSR on eligible visas

Home Affairs states it accepts IELTS results that include One Skill Retake for eligible visas (Academic and General Training). Check the visa subclass page, not a rumour. The TRF will show that one skill was retaken.

Universities — Australia & New Zealand

Widely accepted for admission

IELTS Australia reports that Australian and New Zealand universities accept One Skill Retake. That is their claim; still open the programme’s admissions page or email them if the offer is competitive.

Universities — UK, Canada, US, elsewhere

Organisation by organisation

IDP lists 2,000+ organisations worldwide. Many UK, Canadian, and US universities accept an OSR TRF for Academic admission. Some highly selective programmes or professional regulators still want a single sitting. Get it in writing.

UK visas (UKVI / SELT)

Do not guess on a SELT file

A UK visa that names IELTS for UKVI is a Secure English Language Test. One Skill Retake availability and acceptance depend on the product and the centre. If the checklist says IELTS for UKVI, ask British Council or IDP in writing before you pay for a single-skill sitting. A standard Academic OSR is not automatically a SELT.

Professional bodies

Nursing, teaching, engineering

Regulators set their own English rules. Some accept OSR; some do not. Ask the council that will register you. English Lab will not tell you a regulator “always” accepts it.

OSR is not a training product we sell. We run a short writing or speaking module so the retake is not the same error twice. Book the retake yourself with British Council or IDP in Pakistan.

How the papers actually work

Tips — not shortcuts. The test already has a method; we teach that method.

These are classroom habits. They are not leaked papers, not band guarantees, and not a way to “beat” the examiner. Memorised cue cards and copied essays get caught.

IELTS

Listening: one play, then move

You hear each recording once. On computer, click as you go — there is no transfer sheet. Never leave a blank; a guess can still score. Underline names, numbers, and plurals; they are the cheap marks.

IELTS

Reading: structure first, then hunt

Sixty minutes, 40 questions. Skim the passage for headings and topic sentences, then scan for the question’s keywords. Do not read every word of Academic passage 3 first — the clock will punish you.

IELTS

Writing: Task 2 carries more

Plan for a few minutes. Answer the task, then worry about fancy vocabulary. A clear 6.5 that addresses every bullet beats a 7.0 vocabulary dump that misses the chart. We mark the four public criteria, not “flowery English”.

IELTS

Speaking: answer, then extend

Part 1 is short and honest. Part 2: use the cue card as a list, not a script you memorised from Telegram. Examiners hear canned talks. Pause for thought is allowed; freeze for a memorised paragraph is not.

How a session runs

Lab first. Lecture last.

  1. 01

    Know the student’s need

We listen to the paper your file names, the score you must hit, and how you actually write and speak. Then we place you — not the group you liked on Instagram.

  2. 02

    Twelve seats, not a hall

A session holds twelve students. Urdu only to unlock a point, then back to English. Speaking turns are rostered so nobody recites in a crowd.

  3. 03

    Writing you can use

We mark Task 1, Task 2, and PTE writing and tell you what to fix next — not a number with no reason.

  4. 04

Sat in lab conditions. Bands are marked cold. We will not inflate a mock to keep you comfortable.

FAQs

Straight answers.

The test, the university, the visa, and immigration are four different decisions. Open a question.

Is English Lab the same as HHC?

They share 124 CCA. HHC (Hoist Horizons Consultancy) is the study-abroad desk. English Lab is the test-training room. You can use both, or only one. Tutors will not sell consultancy in class.

Do you book or collect the official exam fee?

No. You pay British Council, IDP, or Pearson yourself. Staff will sit with you on the booking portal if you ask. We never take exam fees into our till.

How many students in a class?

Maximum twelve in the room — one All-in-One PC each. That keeps the speaking roster usable and Listening quiet enough to hear.

How long is a session?

Interactive teaching with a short break. PTE Home is a shorter spoken class. We do not run lecture halls.

Do you guarantee a band?

No. If you attend, submit the writing, and sit the mocks, you will know where you stand. We do not inflate a mock. We do not promise 7.0.

Can I join live from home?

Not yet. Live over the internet is coming soon. Training today is on-site in the lab. Leave your WhatsApp if you want to be told when live seats open.

Do you offer refunds?

No. Once a course fee is paid, it is non-refundable. We may, at the owner’s discretion only, move you to a later group of the same course if a seat exists. That is a courtesy, not a right. Read the refund policy.

I already have an HHC file. Does that matter?

Tell the desk. The counsellor already knows the country and the score the file needs. Tutors still will not quote visa advice in class.

IELTS or PTE — how do I choose?

Read the line on your university offer, agent checklist, or visa form. Canada PR often names PTE Core. UK visas that require a SELT name IELTS UKVI or PTE Academic UKVI. Universities usually accept IELTS Academic or PTE Academic. We will not move you onto a cheaper-looking paper if the file does not accept it.

What is IELTS UKVI versus ordinary IELTS?

The English is Academic or General Training. The booking and the centre are UKVI. A standard IELTS from a non-UKVI session will not replace a SELT list that names UKVI.

What is PTE Core versus PTE Academic?

Academic is the university test. Core is built for Canada language tables (CLB). They share a headset, not a syllabus. Sit the one the table names.

What is PTE Home?

A1 or B1 speaking and listening for some family and extension visas. Short. Spoken. Do not train it as Academic.

How is IELTS Speaking marked?

A human examiner. Four equal parts: fluency and coherence, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation. Bands 0–9. Tap the score cards on this site for plain-language band descriptions.

How is PTE scored?

Overall 10–90, plus listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Many tasks feed two skills. A weak microphone can cost writing points as well as speaking.

Do you use leaked papers or cracked software?

No. That is a code-of-conduct offence. It can also get a test cancelled by the official body.

Who can edit this website?

Only the owner of English Lab. Public visitors cannot create a CMS account.

What is IELTS One Skill Retake?

After a computer-delivered IELTS, British Council or IDP may let you resit one skill within 60 days. The other three scores stay. The new TRF shows it was a retake. Paper IELTS does not have this. Confirm with the centre in Pakistan before you plan on it.

Who accepts a One Skill Retake?

The receiving organisation decides — not English Lab, not HHC. Many universities accept it. Australia’s Home Affairs currently accepts it for English tables; always re-check. UKVI and some professional bodies need a written yes before you book. If two skills are weak, sit the full test again.

Does PTE have a one-skill retake?

No. Pearson’s retake is a full test after you have the last score. Up to twelve sittings in twelve months. A paid rescore is a human review and can go down — it is not training.

Do you run an improvement module?

Yes. After a mock or an official result we can train the weak skill in the lab. That is not an official retake and not a refund of the first course. We still will not promise the new score will be accepted.

Do you book the official IELTS or PTE for me?

Yes, as a third-party assistance, for a small fee, if you find the official portal difficult. The exam fee is still paid to British Council, IDP, or Pearson. We are not a test centre and not an official test taker. You sit at their venue. Read the disclaimer on this site and their confirmation email.

How long is a score valid?

IELTS and PTE scores are typically valid for two years from the test date. Universities and visa routes can set a shorter window. Check the letter, not a Facebook post.

What should I bring on day one?

CNIC or passport, the admission or offer requirement in writing, and the target score by skill. We will run Know the Student’s Need — a short look at where you actually are — then place you.
