PTE Core vs IELTS General Training for Canada from Pakistan

If you are applying for Canada from Lahore, do not pick a paper because a cousin sat it. Open the IRCC language table for that programme — Express Entry, a college admission page, or a provincial stream — and sit the product it names.

PTE Core is Pearson’s test built for Canadian immigration and some college files. IELTS General Training is the British Council / IDP paper used on many of the same tables. They both measure English. They do not share a score line. A PTE Core 6.5 does not exist. A CLB 9 on Core is not an IELTS 7 unless the concordance table on that government page says so.

Universities that want PTE Academic or IELTS Academic for a degree are a different list. A Canada PR table that names PTE Core will not take IELTS Academic. An admission page that names IELTS Academic will not take PTE Core.

How to choose from Pakistan: 1. Read the live admission requirements for that college and that programme. 2. Read the visa / Express Entry table if you will lodge. 3. Sit the paper both documents allow. If they disagree, ask the college in writing, then sit the visa paper if the college will take it.
